You can do both, it is reducing the life of the console by leaving it on, even in stand by but not by a lot. Up to you. It’s meant to be on a lot. I turn it off (standby mode) at night, but throughout the day it is on as it runs my cable now.

It’s meant to be on all day so that you can use your netflix/skype/control your TV etc throughout the day. I say Xbox Off. Not sure if it completely shuts down or goes to standby. If so, then i dont even know how to fully shut it off. It boots up really quick.
